After that AMD confirmed the acquisition of graphics card manufacturer ATI, it has started to focus on its new product series and its Fusion concept is truly interesting. But also today’s AMD assortment may be affected by the ATI purchase. At DNA India they’ve namely published a news article which states that AMD’s Turion 64 X2 processor is the only mobile processor which has been optimized for the 64-bit version of Vista. Both AMD and ATI has namely been working close to Microsoft during the development of Vista and ATI has been a large contributor on the graphical side of Vista. However, the most interesting is of course what AMD means by “optimized for Vista x64”, anyhow it seems like a nice PR boost for AMD.

“AMD’s Turion 64 X2 technology is the only mobile processor that is optimized for the 64-bit versions of Windows Vista. AMD has worked closely with Microsoft to identify and develop key hardware components in support of Vista as well.”

AMD has even made an official statement and confirmed that Microsoft’s upcoming launch of Windows Vista has been an important reason for the acquisition of ATI. At the same time, AMD reveals that it will not develop chipsets for Intel’s platform for more than two years from now. It simply doesn’t want to spend any money on developing new platforms for Intel’s share of the market.
