We recently reported about how Intel had started to retake shares of the server market through its Xeon 5100 series (Woodcrest). It seems AMD has now launched its counter-move as it has namely lowered the prices of its Opteron processors quite a lot, all in silence. Most models have been lowered by 20% to 30%. While some models of the 200 series have been cut by almost 50%. These are some heavy duty price cuts and a clear sign for that AMD will not sit idly by and wait for Intel to grab AMD’s customers with the new Core architecture. Performance means a lot, but price/performance is still what means the most to many.
