OCZ DDR2 PC2-9200 FlexXLC Edition are the latest memory modules from OCZ and it’s pretty easy to see what makes them unique. OCZ is known for its enthusiast memory modules and PC2-9200 FlexXLC Edition is truly in the same spirit. First of all the new modules are specified at 1150MHz clock frequency with 5-5-5-18 latencies, which few modules are able to match. What really stands out though is the cooler, OCZ has namely developed a heatspreader based on water cooling for transferring the heat away.
OCZ’s modules are cooled with FlexXLC (Xtreme Liquid Convention) technology and as far as we know these are the first mass produced memory modules with water cooling. We have seen third party manufacturers launching water blocks for memory modules, but not the module manufacturer self. The aluminum heatspreader used here has a water channel above the module, which transfers the heat from the chips and thus OCZ has chosen to increase the height of the modules. There won’t be an issue of placing several of these right next to each other as the cooler is quite narrow. At the same time, OCZ points out that you will be able to use the modules even without water cooling. Exactly who the FlexXLC technology works can be observed below.
We have no information regarding the price or availability of the modules, but we can assure you that hey will cost you quite a penny, but then you also get water cooled modules
