AMD RS780 is the successor to the AMD 690G chipset. It sports integrated graphics with full DirectX 10 support and is the first to reach the market. Even though Intel claims to be first with DX10 in G35, it is/was not very popular among motherboard makers. Bit-tech got their hands on Gigabyte GA-MA78GM-S2H, which sports both RS780 but also the SB700 southbridge. Both of them are cooled by passive heatsinks. Beside the DirectX 10 support, RS780 comes with native HDMI, DVI and DisplayPort support, with HDCP encryption all around. Add AVIVO to that and we have a complete HTPC board.

Big plus on the SB700 side is that it’s pin-compatible with SB600, which means that motherboard manufacturers can update their current lineup with ease. SB700 sports 6 SATA 3Gbps with RAID 0, 1, 10 support and overall better performance.

The chipset is not expected to launch for another month or so, but boards are expected to be on display at CeBIT.
