Capacity and high frequency are usually two things don’t go hand in hand when working with memories. Most high-end kits usually consists of two 1GB modules, but there are of course exceptions like SuperTalent’s recently launched 4GB DDR3 kit that operated at 1800MHz. OCZ has no intention of being worse though, and has announced a 4GB kit of its own, and it has trumped SuperTalent by raising the frequency up to 2000MHz. The timings are set at 9-9-9 and the operating voltage 1.9V.
“It is no myth that higher memory densities make it harder to push higher clock frequencies,” commented Dr. Michael Schuette, VP of Technology Development at OCZ Technology. “OCZ Technology pulled off this seemingly impossible task with the release of the world’s fastest high-density memory solution. The new OCZ DDR3 PC3-16000 Platinum Edition kits combine two 2GB modules for 4GB system density running at 9-9-9 latencies and a record-breaking 2GHz data rate. All of this is achieved at only 1.9V which falls well within the voltage tolerances of any DDR3 memory controller currently on the market.”
OCZ has also announced a kit operating at 1800MHz for those who feel that the 2000MHz kit is too much. Both modules use the Z3 XTC heatspreader and are covered by a lifetime warranty. Prices are yet to be announced.
