When Intel released additional information on the Nehalem architecture earlier this year it also unveiled the so-called Turbo mode. When the CPU would enter into Turbo mode it would automatically overclock the processor, if the temperature and power consumption would remain within specifications. This could for example be used to improve performance in single-threaded applications as idle cores would be downclocked while the one active core would be overclocked. The Turbo mode has now been officially named and will be called Dynamic Speed Technology. We will just have to wait and see how much the technology really adds to real world use.
