AMD’s desktop CPU business has seen better days, but luckily it has reasonably solid user base. The problem is that cheap mobile market is growing a lot faster and AMD is lacking a competitive product there. This was hardly improved when AMD at the beginning of the year said that it wasn’t very interested in the netbook market, which it most likely regrets by now. The Netbook market has exploded over the last couple of months and Intel can’t keep up in the making of the Atom processors found inside the netbooks.
AMD seems to have realized the value of the netbook market and according to Notebooks.com AMD is about to unveil its answer to Intel’s Atom processor. A processor that might perhaps find its way into Acer’s upcoming nettop?
Even if we can’t be entirely certain that AMD will announce its equivalent to Intel Atom will be following the development of tomorrow’s Financial Analyst Day.
