NVIDIA isn’t just planning to launch a new dual-GPU graphics card using the “new” 55nm GPUs. It will try to transfer many of its existing cards to the new and more manufacturing process and one of the first cards to go through this change is GTX280. NVIDIA is planning to launch 55nm versions of this card by the name GeForce GTX285, and except from the transistor shrink, 65nm to 55nm, it has tuned the frequencies a bit.
| Frequencies | GeForce GTX280 | GeForce GTX285 |
| Core clock | 602MHz | 648MHz |
| Shader clock | 1296MHz | 1476MHz |
| Memory clock | 1107MHz (2214 DDR) | 1242MHz (2484 DDR) |
As you can see the clock frequencies are increased by 7-14% overall and it is mainly the shader frequencies that have been raised, more than the GPU. Something that should give an overall greater boost in performance.
Something you can easily test for yourself by overclocking the shaders of GeForce GTX280 more than the GPU.
