NVIDIA is planning plenty for 2009. Stories have been going around for some time about how NVIDIA is working hard on getting its first 40nm GPU out on the market as soon as possible. The problem was to get the 55nm out first, which is now due on January 8th. As far as we know NVIDIA still hasn’t taped out the first 40nm GPU, but that is expected to happen in early 2009. The GPU in question is the high-end chip GT212, according to the roadmap posted by VR-Zone.
The first 40nm GPU should launch in Q2 and it looks like it will replace the very soon to be launched 55nm products. GT212 looks like a pretty straightforward shrink, but we do believe NVIDIA has improved it in more than one way. It is still look like a member of the current generation, but slightly better. It will remain DirectX 10.0 last we heard, while the first DirectX 11 card, GT300, will appear first at the end of 2009.

In the third quarter NVIDIA will (finally) unleash its new mid-range and low-end GPUs. The G9x cards have been around for some time and is being beaten by the newer AMD cards. The GT214 and GT216 (mid-range), and GT218 (low-end) will come in and replace the G94, G96 and G98. This looks to happen several months after AMD will launch the RV740.
The next generation IGP, iGT209, would appear in the same quarter, replacing the current GeForce 9400/9300 family of chipsets.
