Even if Intel is the unthreatened leader of the performance segment for desktop processors its Core i7 family hasn’t exactly been flying off the shelves. The processors aren’t exactly cheap and if you add the overall price of the platform with expensive motherboards and DRR3 memory, the number of potential buyers become quite few. It looks like the chip giant is testing some new moves to raise demand for its processors by mixing in its Solid State Drives.
Intel recently started offering package prices for Core i7 processors and X25-based SSDs to partners. The OEM manufacturers that buys both processor and SSD from Intel will get 10-15% discount.
Whether this will fan out is yet to be seen. At the same time it looks like this will only be offered to Intel’s own partners, and we shouldn’t really expect to see these offers in stores.
