It’s not just Intel that is planning for more efficient manufacturing processes over the coming years. TSMC that is planning to launch its 32nm process in 2010 has now announced that it is also aiming for 22nm in 2011, just like Intel. Company VP Rick Tsai has announced that it will expand its Research & Development squad by 30% from the 1200 employees they have today. Together with a 15% increase of the design division they hope to achieve 22nm in 2011.

According to the TSMC roadmap, 22nm is listed in the third quarter 2011 while the first 32nm logic circuits will be made in the fourth quarter 2009, but only the low power process will be in use. Regular 32nm chips will start shipping the first quarter 2010.
