Intel’s first processor with integrated graphics will be called Clarkdale, after the processor giant trashed the previous Havendale chip. Clarkdale will sport a graphics circuit much like the one found with Intel’s G45 chipsets. It looks like Intel has also chosen to use a G45-based memory controller with the Clarkdale CPU. Even if the information is unconfirmed and not very detailed, it doesn’t sound all too unreasonable to use two components that has worked well together in the past.

Even if both IGP and memory controller may have been optimized from the version of the G45 chipset it looks like Intel’s two Nehalem-based mid-range CPUs will get different memory controllers. Lynnfield will use a dual-channel version of the Core i7 memory controller, which will most likely offer better performance than Intel’s G45-based memory controller.

If this turns out to be true it will be interesting to see how Intel’s coming mid-range processors compare.
