Intel chocked the SSD market with its X25 series of Solid State Drives and even if the specifications, especially the write speeds, aren’t the most impressive other SSD makers have started to catch up to the first and only SSD products from the chip giant. We have known for long that Intel is working on new SSDs with smaller and more cost efficient 34nm NAND flash circuits. There have been talks about a launch in the fourth quarter, but rumors are now stating that the launch could happen in two weeks already.
According to unconfirmed information handed to The Inquirer, Intel will let loose its second generation of SSDs in the beginning of July already, and not just 80GB and 160GB models as the first generation but also a much beefier 320GB model.
With cheaper memory circuits Intel should have every possibility of keeping the prices down. The improved storage capacity aside we don’t know that much about Intel’s new SSDs but we wouldn’t be surprised if it has revised the performance since the first generation, the question is where the bar is put this time.
