Intel’s budget processors of the Atom family contains two series, Atom N and Atom Z. The first is the cheaper of the two but the Z series sports lower power consumption and can be found in several netbooks where weight and low power has been emphasized. It has been revealed that Intel will stop selling Z models, and the reason is the new and now confirmed Pine Trail platform that will appear this year already.

Pine Trail will consist of the Tiger Point chipset and the new Pineview Atom processor. Pineview is made with 45nm technology and the great difference between it and today’s Atom processors is that the new one has both memory controller and graphics integrated into the processor.

Earlier rumors suggested that Pine Trail would be delayed until next year, something Intel denies. The new platform will launch as Atom N 4xx and will start selling next to the current Atom N 2xx/3xx models.
