NVIDIA isn’t just one of the biggest graphics circuit makers but it also makes chipsets and its assortment for Intel’s Socket 775 platform cover the needs of most people. After Intel announced the Socket 1366 platform NVIDIA hasn’t renewed its chipset license (or didn’t get any) and Intel has been the sole chipset provider. This is also the case of Intel’s new LGA-1156 platform that comes along next month, but it seems like NVIDIA actually has plans to announce a LGA-1156 chipset in Q1 2010.
This comes as a bit of a surprise after announcing SLI support for Intel’s own LGA-1156 chipset, Intel P55. NVIDIA’s LGA-1156 chipset, code-named MCP99, will sport an integrated graphics circuit. It has a dedicated 64-bit memory bus for the graphics, beside the 128-bit bus for the memory controller.
Some of Intel’s LGA-1156 processors will house a graphics circuit and whether it will match NVIDIA’s MCP99 chipset we don’t know, but doubtful it looks. NVIDIA is said to target budget and mid-range users with its LGA-1156 chipset.
At the same time it was revealed that it has two new LGA-775 chipsets in development, MCP85 and MCP89, with specifications similar to MCP99.
