Intel’s P55 chipset and Lynnfield processor family will be a mighty launch by Intel. You don’t even have to think about it as a whole new mid-range platform being presented, which is usually how they sell most components, it’s enough to look at the motherboard makers. Gigabyte, ASUS and even Intel has armadas of motherboards ready for launch and other will follow. ASUS has one of the bigger P55 portfolios and we have some good information on the first mATX motherboard for Lynnfield, Maximus III Gene.

Like the precursor for LGA 775, Maximus III Gene is a fully functional board that despite its mere size sports more features than many other boards. As a member of the ASUS Republic Of Gamers series (ROG) we find plenty of functions for overclocking and performance tweaking.

Among others ROG Connect that enables you to overclock your computer from your laptop, or just monitor temperatures and other information.

Except from the many functions for highlighting the overclocking potential of the board ASUS has equipped the board with the EPU-6 engine for more efficient power usage as it controls the consumption of all major components of the system.

ASUS has equipped Maximus III Gene with four DDR3-DIMM slots that support frequencies up to 2133MHz. Dual PCIe x16 slots that bring support for CrossFire and SLI, and an integrated SupremeFX X-Fi sound circuit with full support for Creative’s EAX format.

The board feeds its LGA 1156 processor with voltage through 8+2 phase solution where the memory modules gets two dedicated power phases. The board supports both Core i5 and Core i7 processors from the Lynnfield family.
