Processor maker Intel has had the upper hand on rival AMD in terms of market shares and after a strong growth thanks to the Core architecture it reach record high numbers in Q2 2009. According to iSuppli, Intel had 80.6% of the total CPU market in Q2 2009, which is 1.4 percentages more year-to-year. This is also the highest share since Q3 2005 when it claimed 82.4% of the market.
AMD being the second leading company had 11.5% of the market has a rough period behind it, and lost 0.4 percentages year-to-year, and the negative trend looks to continue.
The remaining 7.9% is held by various companies like IBM, SUN and VIA, but not even Intel has moved through the depression without harm.
“However, with PC shipments still down compared to a year earlier, Intel actually suffered a decline in microprocessor revenue compared to a year earlier, as did chief rival Advanced Micro Devices Inc. (AMD).”
