It hardly comes as a shock that NVIDIA is planning a dual-GPU graphics card with the new graphics circuit architecture Fermi. Fermi is made with 40 nanometer technology but with more than 3 billion transistors it is still a mighty circuit and fitting two of them on the same circuit board won’t be easy.
NVIDIA is said to be planning two single-GPU models to replace the current GeForce GTX 260 and GTX 285 and later on they will be backed up by the flagship with dual graphics circuits, like AMD did at the launch of Radeon HD 5970.
Fermi, also known as GT300 or GF100, will most likely arrive in March and we can count on the dual-GPU board to arrive 1-2 month after that, if the latest rumors are true.
Considering NVIDIA’s previous work with dual-GPU cards and the size of its surprisingly small GF100 card we see little reason to doubt it.
