Small preview image

Intel released new chipsets just a week ago. H55, H57 and Q57 arrived to bring full feature support for the first 32 nanometer processors. Information on what is claimed to be Intel’s 6 series of chipsets have surfaced where they talk about an update of Tylersburg, Intel X58, but also the next generation mid-range chipsets with Intel P65 in the lead. Most interestingly it looks like Intel X68 will arrive in Q2, something our own sources says is highly unlikely.

Intel X68 would give Intel’s enthusiast lineup of LGA 1366 processors a more stable foundation with next generation DMI bus and the new storage formats SATA 6Gbps and USB 3.0. Since Intel has hinted a release of these technologies in 2011 and that none of our sources could confirm a chipset launch anytime soon we dare to say that the roadmap below is VERY optimistic. At best we will see X68 sometime in Q4, if it ever comes.

Intel’s 6 series with P65, H65 and Q65 is said to be introduced in Q1 2011 with the same improvements as X68 and this sounds a lot more likely as we will most likely get both new processors and chipsets around then. Much can still happen before the launch.

Even if Intel may be working on the 6 series chipsets we shouldn’t expect any product in Q2, or even 2010. An update for Intel X58, which launched back in 2008, would be nice of course but we can’t imagine its economically supported to do that today.
