Via mainly works with developing small, compact solutions for the company market. Their latest APC – Android PC however, is a small motherboard with everything built-in aimed for the consumer market and also comes with a really low pricetag.

APC from VIA is a complete motherboard that is built on a new form factor, Neo-ITX, that measures 170 x 85 millimeter (~6,69 x 3,35 inches). Despite that it is a new form factor, it is built to fit into every chassi that supports Mini-ITX and microATX. Mounting the motherboard in the chassi of your choice should therefore be no problem.

APC is equipped with a VIA WonderMedia system processor with an ARM 11 processor at 800 MHz, 512 MB DDR3 memory and 2 GB NAND Flash for storage. The motherboard that pretty much is a fully functional computer will also cost only $49. The power consumption comes in at 4 watts when idle and 13,5 watts at full load, therefore the unit is shipped with a power adapter with a capacity of 15 watts. The unit is also delivered with Android “Gingerbread” 2.3, that has been optimized for keyboard and mouse.

Looking at the connections we find one VGA, one HDMI, four USB 2.0, one ethernet port and two 3.5 mm connections for audio input and output. APC aims to those who wants a cheap solution for consuming of media or to access the Internet, with a price of only $49. Although we see an ovbvious limitation since the unit supports a max resolution of 720p, 1280 x 720.
