MSI has been playing in the shadows since the launch of the first ultrabook. We can now confirm that the company intends to get into the game and will do so with a Slider, sporting Windows 8 and Intel Ivy Bridge.

Slider S20 is the first ultrabook from MSI and to begin with it will go with a convertible model. Just like the name implies it is a tablet where you can pull up the screen and reveal a physical keyboard. It does not say if the computer has any form of trackpoint or similar, or if it is just the touch screen that is used for navigating the operating system, which not surprisingly will be Windows 8. The resolution of the 11.6″ screen will be 1,366 x 768 pixels.

The computer is classed as an ultrabook so an SSD or hybrid storage solution is a given. Slider S20 will sport an unknown Ivy Bridge processor and weigh 1.3 kg, and be “less than 2 cm” thick. The connectivity include USB 3.0 and HDMI, but MSI is holding the details and only says that there will be a complete cover for all of the most common interfaces. Wireless communication will be handled by Bluetooth 4.0 and WLAN b/g/n, but no mention of 3G or 4G compatibility.

More details about MSI Slider S20 should be appearing shortly, since Computex will open tomorrow where it will be shown in the MSI stand.
