Intel’s latest Ivy Bridge processors are already on the market in the upper market segments, but when it comes to Core i3 and Pentium it is still Sandy Bridge inside. This will change in September when the new budget processors arrive.

Currently there are only quad-core models in the Core i5 and Core i7 families based on Intel’s new Ivy Bridge architecture for desktops. Those who are looking for new and cheaper processors from Intel will not have not have to wait any longer. The dual-core versions called Core i3 and Pentium are expected in September.

While all processors have two cores the biggest difference is the lack of Hyper-threading in the Pentium models and they only have HD graphics. Exactly what HD is the map doesn’t say, but it is likely HD 2500 with various media functions missing. Core i3-3225 stands out as the only model with Intel HD 4000 graphics and should deliver performance on par with AMD A6 series.

Compared to current Core i3 and Pentium processors we see no major differences in clock frequencies, but performance should still be better thanks to optimizations in the new architecture. Also the price should be on the same level as current Core i3 and Pentium processors.
