Apple has now announced an update of its iMac series, which is actually a bit earlier than expected. The rumors that have been circulating about Apple’s updates have been correct though. The big news is of course the transition to Intel’s mobile Core 2 Duo processor (Merom). But at the same time Apple has decided to launch a new flagship in this series, iMac 24″, which use a 24″ LCD wdescreen panel. The new flagship has a resolution of 1920×1200 pixels and the massive display is powered by a NVIDIA GeForce 7300 GT but can be upgraded to a GeForce 7600 GT.
Other base specifications for the new 24″ iMac are as follows; 2.16GHz Core 2 Duo, 1GB DDR2-SDRAM, 250GB harddrive, dual-layer 8x SuperDrive and a FireWire 800 port. The most basic iMac 24″ costs $1,999 but then there’s more than plenty of room for upgrades.
The other iMac models at 17″ and 20″ are still there and with them Apple has added a new introduction model with a 1.83GHz Core 2 Duo processor together with Intel’s integrated graphics circuit GMA 950. The prices for these base models are $999 (17″ with integrated graphics and 1.83GHz CPU), $1,199 (17″ with Radeon X1600 graphics and 2.0GHz CPU) and finally $1,499 for the 20″ model with Radeon X1600 graphics and 2.16GHz processor.
