Intel’s new Core i7 processors doesn’t just bring a whole new range of motherboards to the market. Intel’s seventh processor generation also affects the memory market and even if it doesn’t introduce a new memory technology it changes how we use the current technology with our new Core i7 machines through the integrated memory controller that supports up to three memory channels. This means you will need at least three modules to access all of the bandwidth available with Core i7.
This means that all of the old “dual channel kits” are now pretty uninteresting for those who want to invest in a full suit for their new Core i7. The memory manufacturers know this and have launched a whole bunch of triple channel kits with three DDR3 modules packed together.
Over at i4memory.com they have made a list of the manufacturers that have released new triple channel kits and the specific modules available. This should make it a bit easier for those of you who are looking for some new memory for your new Core i7 processor.
The list can be found over at i4memory.com.
