NVIDIA has stirred up some interest for its green GeForce 9600GT graphics cards we reported on earlier. By lowering the voltages and tuning the chip it has managed to reduce the power consumption up to 40%, which sounds just lovely with the power saving hysteria that is currently ravaging the market. The latest partner to adapt NVIDIA’s new 9600GT card is manufacturer Galaxy, by working on a card called Galaxy GeForce 9600GT Green Edition.
The card actually sports slightly higher clock frequencies than NVIDIA’s reference design of Green Edition. The GPU clock frequency is 625MHz, which is just 25MHz less than NVIDIA’s original version of GeForce 9600GT.
You can also see that Galaxy has equipped the card with a 6-pin power connector, which is supposed to be unnecessary with the new and lower power consumption. The reason for this is that you can both increase and lower the voltage with a jumper on the card, which makes the additional power connector necessary.
With a large Zalman cooler covering the GPU Galaxy looks to have a real interesting alternative for power savers and HTPC users with lower 3D ambitions.
