What do you get if you combine Google’s popular 3D satellite service Google Earth with a 3D circuit by NVIDIA? A navigation system out of the ordinary that’s for sure! That is at least what Google and NVIDIA is hoping to do now that they are aiming to release a new generation of navigation systems for Volkswagen cars. Basically it is Volkswagen and Google that has teamed up to develop the new system, but NVIDIA will supply the graphic circuit that will 3D-accelerate Google’s software. Volkswagen has chosen not to comment on what vehicles that will use the system but the concept is sure sounding very tempting.
A 3D based navigation system has potential to be even more precise as you now can recognize buildings and the surrounding environment and not only rely on street names and such.
