HD DVD seemed to get a quite meager launch as Warner Home Video announced that it will delay its launch of the first HD DVD movies until the mid of April, from the first planned March 28. Toshiba intended to launch the first HD DVD players (HD-A1 and HD-XA1) at this very date, but has realized that releasing hardware without software support is quite pointless. Therefore it has now postponed the launch of the HD DVD player ’til April. A wise and expected decision, even if we do want HD DVD, and Blu-ray of course, to arrive as soon as possible.

“Toshiba is currently working with major studios and major retailers to finalize sales dates of our players,” the company stated. “In order to ensure maximum launch of HD DVD, we intend to synchronize launch of players with title releases from Hollywood studios.”
