Intel recently updated its price lists to include a new quad-core model called Core 2 Quad Q8200, and even though the processor has been listed in stores for a few weeks, there have been little talk about the new entry model. Q8200 is the cheapest quad-core Intel has to offer, disregarding the aging Q6600 which has been cut quite a lot recently. Core 2 Quad Q8200 sports 45nm technology under the IHS and operates at 2.33GHz with a 1333MHz processor bus and 7x multiplier.

To keep the price down, Intel has reduced the L2 cache to a total of 4MB, compared to 6MB with Q9300 and 12MB with Intel’s quad-core top models. The TDP fits into the 95W envelope, the same as Q9300. The price is about $200 and it seems to be quite fair since we’ve already seen overclocking results at 3.6GHz on air.

Core 2 Quad Q9300 costs just a few tens more and sports 2MB cache more, and perhaps some easier overclocking through its 7.5x multiplier.
