Intel has several new notebook platforms coming and its power efficient CULV platform has already made it out in the open with the new slim mid-range segment. In the second half Intel is planning to launch its sixth Centrino family code-named Calpella that will use the Nehalem architecture. As expected Intel has focused on quad-core processors here and Calpella is expected to appear in notebook between 14 to 20″.

According to information from undisclosed sources the Calpella platform will appear in the third quarter along with three Clarksfield processors, Core 2 Quad P1, Core 2 Quad P2 and Core 2 Extreme XE operating at 1.6GHz, 1.73GHz and 2.0GHz respectively.

At the same time Apple is claimed to be interested in the two entry models for its more powerful models of the MacBook Pro family. If so, the question is which chipset manufacturer it will turn to . It dumped Intel in favor of NVIDIA with its latest Mac update, but since NVIDIA doesn’t have a chipset for Nehalem it looks like Apple will revert back to Intel.

We also see that Intel’s plans to introduce the update Atom platform with the Pineview processor in September, hand in hand with Intel’s Tiger Point chipset.
