HD DVD got some nice backup when Microsoft and Intel announced that it will support it as the next generation of DVD-format. But as all commercially driven companies Intel’s support has been based on own interests. E.g. Intel has not made a final decision for Blu-ray but picked HD DVD because of its more rigid features. The feature that speaks to it the most is Managed Copy which makes it possible for consumers to copy material from a protected HD DVD-disc to its harddrive. Something that has to be there to be able to work with Intel’s Media Center plattform VIIV. If Blu-ray adds support for a similar technology Intel may very well support Blu-ray. Source: MacWorld
