Intel recently launch its second generation of Solid State Drives and even if performance is usually in the center of discussions there are many other advantages over mechanical harddrives. Without any movable parts a Solid State Drive can endure a lot more torture than the disc-based equivalent, something Intel has shown with the utmost clarity in its latest marketing video. It has brought one of its SSDs out to the Black Rock desert in Nevada, where they let it fry in the sun and then mangle in a pretty spectacular manner.

Of course, the SSD survives both the extreme sun and other tests by Intel, which is shown by installing the drive in a laptop and then booting Windows. A marketing video from Intel that truly shows how much fun you can have with the SSD technology … and that it sports many other good properties beside performance.
