Intel’s budget series 330 has been limited to 180 GB, to not compete with the more expensive sibling SSD 520. The latest price cuts leaves room for a new model with higher capacity.
The new addition comes after the comany announced massive price cuts at between 25 – 30 percent, for both its SSD 330 and 520 series. Intel SSD 330 240 GB sports 240 GB capacity in the classic 2.5″ format. The SSD is like other 330 series models 9.5 millimeter thick, which means it won’t fit in some notebooks where the limit is 7 millimeter.
| SSD | Size | Read speed |
Write speed |
4K Writes | 4K Reads |
| Intel SSD 330 | 60 GB | 500 MB/s | 400 MB/s | 20 500 IOPS | 12 000 IOPS |
| Intel SSD 330 | 120 GB | 500 MB/s | 450 MB/s | 33 000 IOPS | 22 500 IOPS |
| Intel SSD 330 | 180 GB | 500 MB/s | 450 MB/s | 52 000 IOPS | 42 000 IOPS |
| Intel SSD 330 | 240 GB | 500 MB/s | 450 MB/s | 52 000 IOPS | 42 000 IOPS |
The new unit delivers no performance boosts on paper, but we assume it should be marginally faster in practice with its larger capacity. Just like earlier SSD 330 models it uses Sandforce SF-2281, with a tailored firmware from Intel. The SSD should appear in stores in short.
