Intel Atom isn’t the only small form factor Intel is unleashing in Q2. Intel is going after the small portion of the market that VIA and its C3 and C7 processors have been roaming freely for the last few years. Information about a platform called “Flying Creek” has appeared over at Expreview, where they’ve also published a schematic of the platform. The tiny mini-ITX motherboard is based on the G45 chipset and the ICH10-R southbridge. The LGA775 socket takes up a quite large portion of the board and the only expansion slot is a 1x PCIe slot.

The board will be a part of Intel’s Viiv platform and does indeed look like an excellent HTPC board. Plenty of connectivity on the I/O panel should make up for any lack of expansion slots.

Detailed specifications can be found at Expreview.
