If you’re saying that it is getting harder and harder to weigh different processors and their performance against each other we dare to say that you are wrong. For the initiated enthusiasts it’s pretty easy to separate Core 2 Quad Q9400, Core 2 Quad Q9450 and Core 2 Quad Q9400s. To others it can be a bit trickier, which is why Intel has introduced a rating system for how good a processor is.
This rating system is based on the very common star where 1 star is the lowest and 5 is the highest grade. The more stars, the more functions, features and performance you can expect. Few stars doesn’t mean the processor is poor but that you get a lot of value and high reliability.
Which processors get the top grade of 5 stars then? The entire Core i7 series of course, but also processors of the QX9000 series. If we move down to 4 stars we find Core 2 Q9300 and better, but also the dual-core processors of the E8000 series. The 3 star segment is inhabited by the Q8000, Q6000 and E7000 series. The less prestigious 1 and 2 star segments holds the E5000, E2000 (Pentium) and E1000 (Celeron) series.
Laptop processors are ranked in a similar way with about the same breakdown. To see the complete list and some new Intel inside logos you can head over to Intel’s dedicated site.
