Larrabee will be processor giant Intel’s first discrete graphics circuit in a very long time and it is expected to launch near the end of 2009 or early 2010. Since Intel has only offered simpler integrated graphics circuits over the last couple of years this is pretty new territory for and the architecture Intel has come up with is actually closely related to its x86 processors. Larrabee will use multiple x86 cores and exactly which portion of the market Intel is aiming for is a bit hard to tell.
New information suggests that current prototypes of Larrabee performs on level with NVIDIA’s GeForce GTX 285. Being the fastest single-GPU graphics card of today it is hardly a poor comparison, but then we should all remember that there is another six months before Larrabee will launch.

In this period both AMD and NVIDIA will have rolled out its DX11 architectures and if Intel doesn’t make any significant performance advancements it is perhaps best if Intel leaves out the high-end segment for now.
