Radeon HD 7970 GHz Edition did not bring anything but higher clock frequencies over HD 7970 and a new function for dnyamically overclock when needed. A new BIOS has leaked that enables users to upgrade their HD 7970 to HD 7970 GHz Edition.

In our review of HD 7970 GHz Edition we noted that the circuit board was identical to HD 7970 and could conclude that the only thing that really separated them was the frequencies. There is a change in sensors for PowerTune, that makes the reading of the power more precise than before, for the new Turbo Boost technology.

A BIOS has now leaked that allows for flashing a HD 7970 to the new GHz Edition. Upgrading will lead to a boost from 925 to 1000 megahertz on the GPU with a Turbo Boost mode at 1050 megahertz, and a boost in memory frequency from 5500 to 6000 megahertz. We find it likely that most HD 7970 should be capable of the new specifications, but not all may be able to take the stress. One requirement is that you have a reference version of HD 7970 and not a custom PCB from a third party.

OBS! Make sure your HD 7970 follows the reference design before flashing!

You can download the BIOS, and then simply run it as an Administrator in Windows and reboot. We recommend you use the BIOS switch that is available on HD 7970 if you want to test flash your graphics card. We take no responsibility for a flash that goes wrong.

Works like a charm!!! as simple as double click the exe, two reboots and it is done… 1050 core and 1500 memory. I have not overclocked it past its previous limits (ccc) 1125/1575, but im shure it can reach 1200 on the core. I have the reference MSI 7970.
