Up until today Asus Tablet 600 has been the only confirmed Windows RT unit, sans Microsoft Surface. Now Lenovo, Dell and Samsung have all confirmed they have Windows RT tablets coming, but also “some product” with keyboard and touchpad.

Windows RT is expected to be used mainly in tablets, which is an expanding market, where x86 processors are yet very rare, but Microsoft confirms in its blog  “Building Windows 8” what many have been speculating, including us, that there are several ARM notebooks coming.

Microsoft has also confirmed the battery time with these units. According to early tests with Windows RT computers with 10.1″ and 11.6″ screens and 25 to 42 watthour batteries will be capable of playing movies at Full HD (1920 x 1080 pixels) between 8 to 13 hours, while synchornizing a single e-mail account.

The new power saving mode “Connected Standby” allows computers and tablets with Windows RT to constantly update and synchronize e-mail and other services. In this mode the company has achieved from 320 to 409 hours in battery time, with the same units as in the movie test. Microsoft points out this is with early firmwares and the battery time will be even better with final devices.

Multitouch_gesturesMicrosoft also has an important design goal: to make Windows RT units deliver 60 FPS  in the new interface, formerly known as Metro. Microsoft has also shared the multitouch functions that the operating system supports. They are fairly basic, but hopefully better than the ones we have with Windows 7, which are a mixed blessing at best.

Eventually Microsoft also mentions Windows Store when talking Windows RT. Of all applucations written for Windows 8, over 90 percent will be compatible with Windows RT. If we are to trust Microsoft, Windows RT is ready for mass markets and we look forward to the announcements from Dell, Lenovo and Samsung .
