Intel’s fastest Solid State Drives can be found in the X25-E series where it uses 40nm SLC memory circuits for pushing performance reliability to better suit the requirements of high-end workstations. The latest rumors suggests that the X25-E family will be be updated in Q4 2010. The new X25-E drives has been code-named Lyndonville and will ship with 100GB, 200GB, and 400GB capacity.

This is a substantial increase from the 32GB and 64GB drives of today and this was made possible through MLC memory circuits made with 34nm technology.

Exactly what Intel has done to the new X25-E drives to make them better than the X25-M drives available today already, also using 34nm MLC circuits, is uncertain. Both performance and reliability will have to get a boost to justify the premium prices of the E series.
