Microsoft and Intel caused headlines all over the world when they announced its support for the next generation DVD-format HD DVD. Intel has already announced that it might very well support the rivaling format Blu-ray, but only if certain features find its way into this format as well. Microsoft has not made any such statement and even if it has based its choice on very similar grounds as Intel there are more reasons to it. Even if Microsoft doesn’t want to support the format Sony’s PlayStation 3 consol will use, Blu-ray, as it is a strong competitor for MS Xbox 360 there are more reasons for it to support HD DVD instead.
