Samsung Mondi is a so called MID (Media Internet Device) sporting most features of a regular notebook, but at the same time makes a netbook look clumsy and overweight. Mondi features a 4.3″ LCD with touch technology for navigation without any kind of pointing tool, but Mondi also has an extendable keyboard for easier composing of e-mail and browsing of the world wide web. Especially the latter is the main purpose of MIDs and Mondi does this through the wireless broadband technology WiMAX.
To really make use of the WiMAX and Wi-Fi support, Mondi comes with Microsoft’s Windows Mobile operating system and the browser Opera 9.5. It also supports Bluetooth and offers HDMI output and 4GB storage.
Samsung Mondi specifications;
- Windows Mobile 6.1
- Microsoft Outlook and Windows Mobile Office
- WiMAX Mobile Internet Access
- WiFi Access (BTv2.1+EDR)
- GPS: Route 66 Navigation with Preloaded Maps
- 4GB of Internal Memory
- Direct Push/Mobile Email (POP3, IMAP, SMTP)
- Supports Instant Messaging and MMS
- 3.0 Megapixel Camera and Camcorder
- Bluetooth ® 2.0
- Opera 9.5 Web Browser

WiMAX is a step toward networks with 4G data speeds but if Samsung’s MID format is the right way to go is hard to say, Mondi could almost be compared to the larger UMPCs that disappeared almost as fast as the appeared a few years back.
