Manufacturers are anything but happy about Google’s acquisition of Motorola, which is still being reviewed by China while other authorities have already approved the deal. Rumors that Google plan to sell Motorola’s cell phone business are now circulating in Asia.
Manufacturers of smartphones rages over Google’s acquisition of Motorola, and those who has helped the operating system Android to what it is today feel that they’ve been let down. Rumors imply that Google acquired Motorola with the only reason to get their hands on the vast patent portfolio that was included in the deal, but that this would be the only reason is nothing more than speculations. The man in charge of Android, Andy Rubin, say that he’s “painfully aware” and understand the other manufacturers concerns that Motorola should get advantages over them.
Although, Rubin says that he hasn’t a clue of what’s going on at Motorola and that Google will be building a firewall between the companies. Exactly what that means is that the both companies should be completely separated in their operations, and that they will be operated in that way even if Google is the owner of Motorola. He continues with that it would be physically impossible for him to give Motorola any advantages against their competitors, and that the open nature of Android makes it hard to give anyone unfair advantages. But the manufacturers are still worried about this, and with all due right.
There are now rumors circulating that Google doesn’t intend to keep Motorola’s cell phone business. The rumor is that they are already looking for buyers, and have supposedly already given Huawei an offer of what should be a high price. It looks like Huawei really wants to get into the smartphone market even outside of China, and that the product portfolio of Motorola and that their expertise would be of great value for them to reach their goals. Note that this is just rumors and should be taken with a large pinch of salt, but Motorola looks to be one of the biggest – and strangest purchases of 2012.
