Microsoft is desperate to get as many user as possible to transition to the Windows 7 when it comes. We recently found out the prices of the new OS and not surprisingly the prices are about the same as when Vista launched a few years back. The only exception was Windows 7 Home Premium that has become a bit cheaper. Microsoft has now revealed that Windows 7 Home Premium will be even cheaper , per license, if you get the family package.
Windows 7 Home Premium Family Pack contains three separate licenses, which has been revealed in one of the latest Release Candidates. Blogger Kristian Kenney found the following text in the latest build of Windows 7;
“b. Family Pack. If you are a “Qualified Family Pack User”, you may install one copy of the software marked as “Family Pack” on three computers in your household for use by people who reside there. Those computers are the “licensed computers” and are subject to these license terms. If you do not know whether you are a Qualified Family Pack User, visit go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?Linkid=141399 or contact the Microsoft affiliate serving your country.”
This amendment is only found with Windows 7 Home Premium, which probably means that high-end users that are aiming for Windows 7 Professional or Ultimate is still looking for an expensive upgrade if several PCs are involved.
According to ZDNet the Family Pack will cost 189 USD, cheaper than a full version of regular Windows 7 Home Premium, which doesn’t sound quite right. Microsoft has chosen not to comment.
