Intel hasn’t just launched ten or so mobile processors during CES, it has also displayed new technologies for its mobile platforms. Intel Wireless HD is without a doubt one of the more interesting and it should alarm media player makers. The technology is as ingenious as it is simple. You activate Wireless HD with the push of a button and directly the screen of the computer synchronizes with the wireless receiver connected to the TV.

In just a matter of seconds you have the computer image showing on the TV at 720p resolution. No matter the resolution on the computer or material being played the resolution scales up or down to 720p, but support for 1080p and HDCP is expected with future versions.

The only thing needed beside a computer with support for the technology is a Wireless HD receiver connected to the TV. Otherwise it’s up to each his own which display he or she wants to connect to around the house. This turns an ordinary notebook into a portable media player in a way we haven’t seen before.

The technology uses the 802.11n protocol and the strength of the technology is that Wireless HD simply works and does it very well.
