AMD Athlon 64 X2 6000+ was the first retail processor with dual cores working at 3GHz and at the same time reached a new milestone, which will also be the end of the 90nm era. The new flagship from AMD is thus based on 90nm technology and will most likely be the last top model of the Athlon family using this manufacturing process. AMD is having trouble keeping up with Intel and if we look through the reviews of Athlon 64 X2 6000+ that have been published, we see that they are still a bit behind.

AMD has chosen to launch a new flagship on the processor market, but still has to settle for second place behind (several of) Intel’s processors. Now we just have to wait for AMD’s new processor architecture Barcelona to arrive and most of all more 65nm processors. Below are some of the tests that have appeared.
