AMD has now replied to the Athlon processor supply problems and in a news article at Ars Technica it claims that Dell, contrary to what most have claimed, is not the decisive factor behind the current situation. The availability problems is simply because it has stumbled upon an unexpected sales peak, a leak id did not expect until December and this has taken AMD by surprise. Even if it doesn’t mention it right out loud the reason should be the heavy duty price cuts which happened right after that Intel launched its Core 2 Duo platform. Even if AMD will soon launch its 4×4 platform it doesn’t believe this will affect the supply to any real extent as the sold volumes are so small.
