AMD has been working uphill with wind in their face for some time, actually ever since Intel launched the Core architecture. When AMD finally got things in order and launched the Phenom II series, Intel had already cemented the performance throne with the new Core i7 platform. Luckily, for AMD, is that the world’s fastest processor isn’t selling that great, the world’s most affordable processors are selling much better and there AMD is in a much better seat with its Phenom II X3 and X4 processors. Information from Taiwanese motherboard manufacturers suggests that will keep plucking market shares from Intel in the second quarter.
The demand for Phenom II X4 920 and Phenom II X3 700 series have been great thanks to aggressive prices, which now looks to grant AMD a chance for getting above the 30 percent line on the global market for desktop processors.
AMD is devoted to price/performance with both graphics cards and processors and it seems to pay off. At the same time it is working hard on new processor architectures to threaten Intel in the performance segment.
