The asset-smart, a.k.a. asset-lite, strategy has been the reason for many rumors. AMD has kept the lips tight on this one and this has caused more than a few misunderstanding and many attempts trying to unfold the specifics of this strategy. The most common and frequently reoccurring story has been the one about AMD selling its fabs. The latest story was based on the statements made in a recent interview, but it seems Meyer was misquoted.
He was talking about how AMD makes the wafers, not selling off fabs. AMD hopes to unveil more about its asset-smart strategy in the near future perhaps to stop these rumors from going around. The asset-smart strategy is led by former CEO Hector Ruiz and was supposed to be a key to how AMD would get back on its feet, even though they have kept reporting losses since the announcement of the strategy.
