AMD has unveiled its answer to NVIDIA’s coming mobile graphics circuit by launching two new Mobility Radeon HD graphics circuits. ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4860 and 4830 are DX10.1 compatible and supports everything from DisplayPort to 7.1 channel HDMI audio and CrossFireX. The biggest news is otherwise the manufacturing process, AMD’s new mobile circuits are the first made with 40nm technology, which makes them both smaller and more energy efficient.

The thing that separates the two is that the top model, HD4860, supports GDDR5 memory and the GPU operates at a slightly higher frequency.

AMD hasn’t revealed any exact details surrounding the power consumption of the new 40nm circuits, but since the new mobile circuits are pin-compatible with the current 55nm generation they propose an easy way of lowering the power consumption of a notebook will packing it with plenty of 3D rendering power.

Actual availability remains to be seen.
