AMD will launch the updated 45nm Deneb core later this year. The first two models will be for Socket AM2+ and should raise the bar for what we’ve grown accustomed to for Phenoms. The launch of the first Deneb processors should also be the start of a new naming scheme for AMD. A bit like when AMD updated the Opteron family years ago, it will simply add another digit to the already four number long model name. This means that the faster Deneb models will get a “2” in front of whatever digit will come next, while the L3 cache-lacking Propus core will get a “1” as the first digit. On a side note, it does seem like AMD will be hitting 3GHz before the end of the year.
