AMD’s acquisition of graphics circuit manufacturer ATI has now been made official and AMD has published a press release where it presents the new AMD and the company’s plans for the future. The deal has a value of about $5.4 billion and all ATI stock holders have had the choice of having their stocks reimbursed or having them replaced by AMD stock. In its press release AMD has also announced that the first integrated platform, based on AMD/ATI technology, will appear next year and will target most market segments. Ranging from the mobile market to media and gaming. It also mentions the next generation Turion 64 platform, which together with AMD LIVE! will head for the media center market. Most likely using integrated graphics circuits from ATI.
“On day one, we are delivering a winning set of complementary technologies, igniting a new level of innovation and continuing to champion choice for the industry. Thanks to the strength of our talented employees, the new AMD now has a full range of intellectual property (IP) in microprocessors, graphics, chipsets and consumer electronics to deliver open platforms and integrated solutions. In the near term, customers gain a new level of choice, and in the long term, we believe the possibilities for innovation are truly limitless.”
AMD will continue developing new products and solutions for the home electronics market where ATI is already well established. Exactly what products it will keep developing remains to be seen and for how long is also something we’re uncertain of, any possible name changes and such are also left in the dark. But AMD has already taken the first step toward turning ATI’s brand into its own. ATI’s homepage has been completely refurbished; no more ATI logos, but instead a green AMD theme. The address is currently www.ati.amd.com and below is a picture of what “ATI’s” website looks like nowadays.
